PLACE: Olympia, Greece
DESCRIPTION: Temple of Hera (Zeus's wife) in ancient Olympia. This is the oldest temple of Olympia. The Olympic flame is lit at the altar (foreground) using the same method that was used in ancient times. Actresses dressed in white (ceremonial priestesses) use a parabolic mirror to light a torch, and the fire is then carried in a pot to the ancient stadium. There, it lights the first runner's torch.
